WIP Wednesday - More is More

Yesterday I posted a picture of a pile of blocks which were the start of a quilt for Alison's Soy Amado/a project.   Because of shocking inattention to other duties, I can actually link up to WIP Wednesday with this:

My camera and the dull weather are not doing justice to the sheer in-your-face riot of pink which is this quilt top.  I have used up every single bit of pink fabric in my stash (except for a novelty print with cupcakes on it), and I love it.

Do you have a name for your quilt in your head while you are working on it?  In my mind this quilt is already called the "More is More" quilt.    In that spirit I'm considering the options for binding it - fluorescent orange and acid lime green were my first thoughts, but there is also the beloved Riley Blake stripe.  This is left over from binding my first ever full size quilt and it would be hard to use it since I don't think it is available any more, but with the recipient in mind I think I might have to go for it really!

With a bit of colourful hand quilting, maybe, and possibly an applique heart in the middle (what do you think?) I hope it would make someone feel loved.

  1. Oh I just love this! I adore pink and I love how this is coming together!! Alison will be delighted. I'm undecided whether you should put a heart as it will take away from the gorgeous fabrics, but on the other hand it's a symbol of love, so it would be beautiful. I look forward to seeing what you decide!

  3. You're a speedy quilter! I think hearts, or giant ric rac would look splendid on the white border. An acid green binding would be stunning.

  4. hmm - no to the stripes ... go for the orange or lime please ... quilting ... maybe the binding colour and pink int he white area ... maybe smaller squaares, so that each normal square get's halfed (pretend to do some STD in 4 patches that make up one of your regular squares)

I think an appliquéed heart would be too much ... you could always add one to the backing if you want to have a heart on it ... that way the heart woudl even be closer to whoever is under the blanket ..

  5. Would put a small appliqué heart on the white in the upper left area (left if you are looking at the quilt), acid green binding, and a bigger appliqué heart on the back like Leo suggested. Just my 2¢.

  7. You are so quick! I absolutely love this wild splash of pink! I like the stripes idea. Lime green and orange sounds good too or even pure white for binding. I usually put a few combos together, take a photo of each of them and it helps me decide. For some reason it'd easier to see the right choice on a photo for me. Maybe small flowers or hearts appliqué on the white border using some of the prints in the quilt? Just thinking aloud. I am sure the end result of your quilt is going to be stunning. Looking forward to seeing it!

  13. Those are some really beautiful fabrics in the pink quilt. The white border lets them sing. I really like the yellowy green fabrics as well. I'm not a pink person either but I love pink fabric!

  15. " Because of shocking inattention to other duties " I like this sentence of yours --- Oh how true it is for us quilters. I am stitching at the moment but with the same problem. Forgetting disorder and food - nearly. The stomac is revolting by itself.....
