WIP Wednesday

Despite having a bit of a whinge about how hard I find the discipline of following a pattern, I'm getting very fond of this quilt in progress.

I now have all the triangles sewn together (there are some shameful cropped points, but I don't think anyone would really notice).

I'm going to customise it slightly by adding a border all round:  my daughter, who this is for, and I are just debating whether it should be pink, acqua or red.  (Or even the neutral, with a stripe of one of those...!)  What do you think?  Either way it's going to be a fun piece, I hope.

I haven't decided how to quilt it but at the moment I think it would be nice to add to the colour madness with some perle hand stitching.

Other WIPS include some teeny-tiny crazy patchwork panels using the smallest of scraps left over from Liberty projects - some scraps are only a centimetre or so wide.  Because they are so small I have used a different crazy patchwork technique to the one I used for my Komebukuro bags - more about this soon.

  1. Your quilt is so beautiful. I love the colours, and I think it's going to be nice with some hand stitching on the white parts. And I also love the way you use your scraps.

  3. OK...I think this is lovely! I never look closely enough to care about the points. How about 1/4" inside each triangle? Would give a cool effect on both the white and the patterned triangles! And for the border...how about different colors all the way around it? It's a fun, bright quilt, would be a fun, bright border! Whatever you do, well done!

  4. Your triangles look great. It will be beautiful and warm even with not so perfect points. yes we all strive to get clean points, but hey we can't all be perfect all the time. Your daughter will love and cherish it since she has helped you in the process. enjoy.

  6. Love the triangle quilt and I vote for a neutral border with a pink stripe! How fun! I also think some hand quilting in the white triangles would look really neat.

  8. The triangle quilt looks gorgeous and I would say a strong red border would look really cool since there's a lot of pink and aqua in it already, though I like the idea of a neutral with red in it too! The Liberty looks amazing!

  9. Thanks Catherine for letting me know about the email issue, which I hope I've sorted now. I'm seriously in awe of quilting skills as it looks like it takes serious patience and precision. I'm a total fiend for symmetry if something is supposed to be even and equal but sadly my attention to detail doesn't live up to my own expectations.

  10. its gorgeous Catherine. I would go with a neutral border and nice bright quilting in perle cotton. But whatever you choose it will look amazing I'm sure.

  11. You are very patient Catherine! The quilt looks bright and happy. I would probably go with aqua border or neutral with some stitching in matching colours. I am sure no matter what you choose, it would look great. Look forward to seeing the end result.

  12. Ooooo your quilt is looking gorgeous!!! I love the fabric you chose! If it was me I would go for one of the large scale prints that you've used in the triangles and that way you could get at least a couple of different colours :)
