Bloglovin vs Feedly

Like everyone else who uses Google Reader, I'm checking out the alternatives.

I've been having a poke around on Bloglovin, and so far the only thing I don't like about it is that compared to Reader, where I can scroll through full recent posts from the blogs I subscribe to, in Bloglovin you see a partial preview and then have the option of opening up the blog within the Bloglovin window.

This seems laborious and time-consuming, and I think that anyone who has a Bloglovin readership is going to have to make sure their best pic is located in the first paragraph of their post as a hook to counteract any tendency for the reader just to move on to the next blog!

On the other hand, the transition to Bloglovin is very straightforward.

Given the number of mentions I'm seeing I suspect that there's going to be a mass migration to Bloglovin, but I'm off to look at Feedly next.  In the meantime, I found a comparison of the features of Bloglovin and Feedly here.

What do you think?

  1. Both of them have their fans so it is difficult to make up my mind which is the best for me. Will be interested to see what you find Catherine.

  2. That's my concern too. I think I might go with feedly, esp as I mainly read on my phone.

  4. I am undecided yet. I like the simplicity of bloglovin but feedly looks and feels more grown up!

  6. Oh no. Now I'm in a bit of a panic as I'm not very good at this sort of thing. So do we have to move our blogs or loose them is that the score ?

    1. No, don't panic. Your blog stays exactly where it is - it's just that people who use Reader to read blogs are going to have to choose another way of looking at them. The claiming your own blog bit is just so that Bloglovin (one of the other ways of reading blogs), knows that it's your blog and not someone else's, and can give you statistics on it. I think the use of the word "claim" makes it sound as if you're somehow staking out a spot, but what you're doing is just proving that it's you.

Some people don't use readers at all and just look at each blog in their browser. It's just easier to use soe kind of reader if you read hundreds of blogs.

  7. I've also seen a lot of bloggers moving to Netvibes. I haven't had a chance to check it out though.

  8. I'm sad abut reader too. It suits me well. I'm still using it on my iPad, but trying out Feedly on desktop. So far I like it and it's super easy to swap all the info over. Well I'm off to go and read that comparison now
